Anna Maria Palumbo
The Water Seller
Wooden structure on an alabaster base, with lemons, oranges and terracotta amphorae. Beautiful for its meticulous attention to detail. The figure is alabaster, made, dressed and painted by hand. An old trade that is dying out, yet still seen today in a modern form on the streets of Naples. In the past the acquaiola sold the typical lemonade with a pinch of bicarbonate, mineral water from Chiatamone and water from Serino, often laced with aniseed: a fresh, thirst-quenching cocktail for the Neapolitan nobility.
